Why Polyrix for Sheet Metal Inspection?

  • Detects defects earlier with full 3D visibility.
  • Full 360° capture: no motion, zero-contact, zero-wear.
  • Software-driven adaptability for new parts, variants, and ECNs.
  • Continuous improvement and closed-loop control across casting, machining, and assembly.
  • Flexible multi-part support without added costs.
  • Lower total cost of quality across the manufacturing lifecycle.

Traditional Metrology Systems Don't Measure Up!

Mechanical or Robot-Based Scanning Systems

  • Require complex motion paths and re-teaching
  • Slower cycle times that limit true 100% inspection
  • Sensitive to lighting, surface conditions, and environmental changes

Fixed 2D/3D Camera

  • Limited field of view that creates blind spots
  • Struggle with complex cast geometries
  • Often require per-feature or per-part licensing

Hard Gauging & Physical Tooling

  • Long build times and costly changeovers
  • Inflexible when part designs evolve
  • Measure only a limited set of dimensions

Polyrix Sheet Metal Inspection FAQs

Unlike traditional CMM or robot-based systems that require sampling, Polyrix's non-contact Surround.Scan™ captures every part at full production speed. With no robot motion, no complex path programming, and no part handling required, the system integrates directly into your line with zero interruption.

A single PolyScan system is designed to handle multiple part types within a size family, so if you're running different closure panels, door skins, hood assemblies, or liftgates through the same line, one system covers them all. Sheet metal applications we commonly support include Body-in-White (BIW) panels, doors, hoods, roof panels, liftgates, battery covers and enclosures, and stamping and welded assemblies. Determining the right PolyScan configuration is as simple as sending us a CAD model.

Smart.Fit™ is Polyrix's AI-powered feature targeting technology, designed specifically for the features that challenge conventional metrology: holes, studs, edges, and trimmed features. By reducing sensitivity to point-cloud density variation, Smart.Fit™ delivers measurement stability and the confidence needed for fast, reliable go/no-go decisions.

Yes. Reflective surfaces are one of the most common challenges for traditional single-camera or laser-line systems, but Polyrix's Surround.Scan™ is built to handle them. By capturing the same surface simultaneously from multiple cameras and projectors, the system ensures that where one viewpoint is lost to a specular highlight or mirror-like reflection, others capture the geometry cleanly. No surface preparation or matting spray required.

Sheet metal production lines expose metrology equipment to varying light conditions, dust, oil, vibration, and temperature changes, all of which can compromise measurement accuracy over time. PolyScan is purpose-built for these conditions. Calibration.Plus™ addresses environmental drift head-on by combining a photogrammetric fiducial net with surround scanning to proactively recalibrate before issues arise, delivering continuous accuracy without stopping the line.
