PolyScan XM FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

The PolyScan XM is a mid-sized 3D scanning system engineered for industrial environments. It offers an ideal balance of precision and volume, making it well-suited for automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing applications. The system uses Surround.Scan™ technology to capture full-field 3D data quickly and accurately.
With the advanced (optional) Calibration.Plus module, the PolyScan XM achieves volumetric accuracy up to ±0.015 mm. Even without the advanced module, users can expect excellent precision in the ±0.020 mm range, depending on part geometry and setup.
Typical scan times range from 6 to 8 minutes. When paired with Fast.Scan, cycle times can be reduced to as little as 20 seconds, depending on part geometry and inspection resolution.
The PolyScan XM is designed to scan parts up to 0.75 meters in size. It is ideal for medium-volume applications such as transmission housings, hydraulic pumps, castings, and fabricated assemblies.
In most cases, no surface preparation is required. Matte and lightly reflective surfaces are easily scanned thanks to our proprietary Surround.Scan™ technology, included with every PolyScan.
Industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, foundries, energy, and industrial manufacturing benefit from the XM’s mid-volume capacity, high accuracy, and fast inspection workflows.
Yes. The XM is automation-ready and can be integrated into robotic cells, conveyors, and production environments. Optional I/O and automation modules allow seamless connection with MES, PLCs, and safety systems.
The PolyScan XM features a rigid hemispherical enclosure with fixed-position cameras and projectors. It is mounted on an, optional carbon-fiber, structure that offers high stability and resistance to vibration and thermal drift—making it ideal for shop-floor conditions.
Every system includes Polyrix Lab software to operate the scanner. The output is compatible with all major data processing software platforms (sold separately). A plugin for InnovMetric’s PolyWorks|Inspector™ is included with every system.

Yes, the XM supports at-line and inline inspection configurations and is built for integration with automated workflows. Combined with Fast.Scan and Calibration.Plus, it meets the speed and traceability requirements of demanding production environments.
Common applications include transmission housings, hydraulic pumps, castings, closures, control arms, subframes, and sheet metal components—especially where fast, repeatable, high-accuracy measurements are essential.
